GOSPEL READING: Luke 8: 26-39
A Demon-Possessed Man Healed
26 Then they sailed to the country of the [a]Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee. 27 And when He stepped out on the land, there met Him a certain man from the city who had demons [b]for a long time. And he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house but in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!” 29 For He had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For it had often seized him, and he was kept under guard, bound with chains and shackles; and he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the wilderness.
30 Jesus asked him, saying, “What is your name?”
And he said, “Legion,” because many demons had entered him. 31 And they begged Him that He would not command them to go out into the abyss.
32 Now a herd of many swine was feeding there on the mountain. So they begged Him that He would permit them to enter them. And He permitted them. 33 Then the demons went out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the lake and drowned.
34 When those who fed them saw what had happened, they fled and told it in the city and in the country. 35 Then they went out to see what had happened, and came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind. And they were afraid. 36 They also who had seen it told them by what means he who had been demon-possessed was [c]healed. 37 Then the whole multitude of the surrounding region of the [d]Gadarenes asked Him to depart from them, for they were seized with great fear. And He got into the boat and returned.
38 Now the man from whom the demons had departed begged Him that he might be with Him. But Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 “Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you.” And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.

А кога излезе Он на суво, Го сретна еден човек од градот, кој имаше бесови од многу години, и не облекуваше алишта, и не живееше дома, туку по гробовите. 28. Кога Го виде Исуса, извика и падна пред Него, и гласно рече: „Што имаш со мене, Ти, Исусе, Сине на Севишниот Бог? Ти се молам, не мачи ме!” 29. Зашто Исус му беше заповедал на нечистиот дух да излезе од човекот; оти долго време го мачеше, и беше во окови, и со вериги го врзуваа, чувајќи го; но тој ги раскинуваше оковите и бесот го тераше да оди во пусти места. 30. А Исус го праша, велејќи: „Како ти е името?” Тој одговори: „Легион”, зашто многу бесови беа влегле во него. 31. И Го молеа Исуса да не им наредува да одат во бездната. 32. А таму, по ридот, пасеа многу свињи; па Го молеа да им позволи да влезат во нив. И им позволи. 33. И откако излегоа бесовите од човекот, влегоа во свињите; и се гргнаа свињите низ стрмнината и се издавија во езерото. 34. Свињарите, кога видоа што се случи, избегаа и раскажаа по градот и околината. 35. И излегоа да видат што станало; па кога дојдоа кај Исуса, го најдоа човекот, од кого беа излегле нечистите духови, како седи пред нозете Исусови, облечен и со здрав разум; и се уплашија. 36. А оние, што беа виделе, им кажаа како се исцели бесниот човек. 37. И сиот народ од Гадаринскиот крај Го молеше да си отиде од нив; зашто се беа уплашиле многу. И Он влезе во коработ и се врати. 38. Човекот, пак, од кого беа излегле демоните, Го замоли да биде со Него; но Исус го отпушти, велејќи: 39. Врати се во домот свој и раскажувај што ти направи Бог! Тој си отиде и расправаше по целиот град, што му направи Исус.

Thoughts by St. Theophan the Recluse on the Gospel for this Sunday
After the Gadarene man who was possessed with devils was healed, he cleaved to the Lord and desired to be with Him always; then, upon hearing His will, goes and preaches throughout the whole city about the good things he received. The benefactor attracts, His will becomes law for the receiver of the benefaction, and the tongue cannot resist proclaiming what was received from Him. If only we kept in mind all the good things which we have received and are receiving from the Lord, there would not be ungrateful people among us, there would not be transgressors of His holy will, there would not be people who do not love Him more than anything. We are saved through baptism from our forefathers’ sin and all of its perdition; in repentance we are constantly washed from sins, which incessantly cling to us. Through God’s providence we are preserved from misfortunes which often are not visible to us ourselves, and we receive a direction for our life which is safer for us and favorable to our goals; but also all that we possess is from the Lord. That is why we must belong to the Lord with our whole soul, fulfil His will in all things, and glorify His most holy name—especially in our life and deeds, so that we might not fall behind the Gadarene man possessed by devils, who immediately proved himself to be so wise that he became an example worthy of everyone’s imitation.

Гадаринецот, кој беше опседнат со нечисти духови, откако беше исцелен, се приклони кон Господа и посака секогаш да биде со Него; потоа, слушајќи ја Неговата волја, оди и низ целиот град раскажува за добрините што ги прими од Него. Добротворот (Господ) привлекува, Неговата волја станува закон за примателот на благодетта, такашто јазикот не може да одолее да возгласува – што беше примено од Него. Ако само си спомнуваме за сите добрини што сме ги примиле и ги примаме од Господа, не би имало неблагодарни луѓе меѓу нас, не би имало прекршители на Неговата света волја, не би имало луѓе кои не би Го љубеле повеќе од сè. Преку крштевањето сме спасени од гревот на нашите прародители и од сета негова осуда; преку покајанието постојано се очустуваме од гревовите што непрестајно се закачени за нас. Преку Божјото провидение сме запазени од несреќите што честопати не ни се видливи и примаме животно упатство кое е безбедно за нас и е користно за нашите цели; но, исто така, знаеме дека сè што поседуваме е од Господа. Ете, затоа треба да Му припаѓаме на Господа со сета наша душа, да ја исполнуваме Неговата волја во сè и да го славиме Неговото свето име, особено со нашиот живот и дела, за да не паднеме како и гадаринецот опседнати со нечисти духови, кој веднаш се покажа благоразумен и стана пример достоен да биде последуван.
